Partners

REMEDIO gather institutional partners, as Municipalities and public agency for public transportation or environmental protection, and scientific institutions from 5 different MED countries. One of the territorial challenges for middle sized cities and towns in the Mediterranean area is traffic congestion; REMEDIO focuses on high density areas surrounding the city centers with commercial and directional roads often suffering from traffic jam to the point of becoming wounds in the connectivity of the wide spread city and elements of additional economic crisis and even social exclusion.

ARPA Veneto - Regional Agency for Environmental Protection in Veneto Region, Padua

ARPAV is the public environmental agency responsible of all environmental issues in Veneto Region; its Regional Air Observatory Service (ORAR) is the unit supporting Air Quality management & planning. ARPAV has achieved a specific experience in leading and participating to Interreg Projects on air quality issues, also applying integrated modelling techniques for source apportionment studies, mitigation measures assessment and air dispersion studies. ARPAV cooperates with educational institutions for promoting a low carbon life style in children and their family in the Veneto territory. ARPAV is the leader with scientific and management responsibilities in REMEDIO. Through the support given to territorial partners in REMEDIO, ARPAV carries out its statutory mission of environmental protection and pollution prevention, focusing in actions to reduce air pollutants and CO2 emissions, to relieve noise pollution, to prevent negative effects on human health, to reduce energy consumption and promote energy efficiency.

Municipality of Treviso

Municipality of Treviso  joined the Covenant of Mayors in 2011  and in 2012 approved the SEAP, consisting of 29 actions, with the objective of reduction by 2020 of about 115,000 tonnes of CO2, compared to base year (2006). The European Commission approved this document on 13 June 2013. Moreover, on 18 June 2014 Municipality of Treviso commited the Mayor Adapt iniziative. Participation in the project is inspired by the initiative called "I love Strada Ovest, class A", presented at the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW 2015). The project aims to promote the "horizontal apartment block" 5 km long, in order to generate a sense of belonging and improving the image of business and residents along the road to trigger a Energy Management process and economic development. With REMEDIO Treviso’s Municipality try to achieve two objectives: the first to design the "condominium" in terms of technical/legal and functional, so that it is able to effectively represent the interests of the axis and to provide a system of electric bike sharing linking the road to the center town of Treviso and the Villorba municipality.

City of Split

Through the participation in various EU projects, City of Split gained experiences and knowledge in networking and activities connected to energy efficiency and sustainability, as well as in developing managing plans related to natural and historical heritage within the town. One of main challenges of Split is coping with the pressure of traffic congestion in the wide city centre. Split is facing highly congested urban roads at the height of the season, but also during the year, especially in some specific spots in the wider old city centre. Thanks to the participation in REMEDIO the City would acquire a knowledge to better manage air quality, multi modal mobility and energy efficiency. Regarding the pilot activity, the City of Split plans to strengthen the implementation of low-carbon transport solutions by the introduction of mixed contingent of common and e-bikes.

Instituto Superior Técnico

IST participates in a large number of EC-funded projects, particularly in the programs: FP7 7th Framework Programme, H2020, Marie Curie Actions, ENERGY, ERA (European Research Area), EURATOM, ERC (European Research Council), LEONARDO DA VINCI, SOCRATES, TEMPUS, LIFE, External Cooperation programmes / ALFA, among others. REMEDIO will give to the IST the possibility to do a multidisciplinary and inter-sectoral collaboration within the project. IST will have the opportunity to increase its competences on issues relevant with sustainable and innovative urban mobility while interacting with scientific and institutional/local partners involved in the air quality, mobility strategies and structural changes within a city. Moreover, the collaboration with MED partners will improve the know-how and expertise of the all IST team.

In REMEDIO, USE’s participation is integrated by researchers from two R&D groups: Group of Power Systems (Thermal Engineering) and Engineering Electronics. It constitutes a multidisciplinary group with full capacity both in staff and resources for developing the REMEDIO’s activities, each focused on his expertise with the synergies generated through the diversity of knowledge areas. Moreover, USE members have a large experience in EC-funded projects. USE team participates in all REMEDIO project activities, especially in technical tasks related to trasnport energy efficiency moduel and noise module, as well as the overall integration of the Remedio Integrated Modelling Tool (IMT).

Municipality of Loures

The Municipality of Loures joined the Covenant of Mayors, according to which the signatory cities commit to reduce CO2 production by reducing energy consumption, increasing renewable energy production and developing a Sustainable Energy Action Plans which defines the strategy to be implemented. Energy characterization of the Municipality of Loures was done from which it was developed and presented the SEAP. Loures participated in the Project e-AIRE, co-funded under the EU Program INT IVB SUDOE for minimizing and controlling emissions of greenhouse gases to combating climate change and improve the environmental quality and life quality in SUDOE space. Within REMEDIO a model for low-carbon solution will be implemented with direct effects on improving the target population's conditions, with the underlying framework of sustainable development.
